Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil have been together personally and professionally for decades, but now the professional part of their relationship is coming to an end: he will no longer be her manager.
Rene is stepping down as Celine's manager. His longtime friend Aldo Giampaolo will take over as the CEO of Feeling Productions, the management company that officially guides Celine's career. Rene will remain as chairman of the board. There was no reason given; the Gazette quotes Rene as saying of Giampaolo, "Considering our longstanding friendship, our mutual respect and our past collaborations, this was a logical step for all of us."
Giampaolo will move to Las Vegas, where Celine is based and the company is headquartered, in August. Celine returned to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace this week for the latest batch of shows in her residency there; she'll be performing there through August 31.
Celine first met Angelil when she was 12; he was so convinced of her talent that he mortgaged his home to finance her first record. He's guided her career ever since. The two got engaged in 1991 and married in 1994.
In February of this year, he and Celine revealed that he'd had an operation in December to remove a cancerous tumor from his throat. At that time, the couple said that Angelil would "take a short hiatus from his normal work schedule, and concentrate on rebuilding his strength through proper rest and nutrition."
